About Sugar
Fine Jewellery

Hello, my name is Jessica. I am a traditionally trained goldsmith and artist who uses time tested hand fabrication techniques to create fine jewellery. Each piece of jewellery I make begins with noble metals gold, platinum, and silver. The process is slow and magical, which only serves to make the final creation more beautiful. Some of my work is wrought completely from alloy to finished jewellery, while some of my more organic shaped pieces are formed with soft modelling wax before being cast into metal using the lost wax casting method, and further formed and finished after casting.

Shaped by fire, pressure, patience, and time, an object is brought into existence. My happy place is performing the magical alchemy of transformation, combining raw materials brought together from across the earth to create something tangible and beautiful.. The final piece becomes far more than a sum of parts. Formed from the raw earth from which you also came, the object becomes a part of your story, your journey.

Our possessions hold memories, milestones, and aspects of our identity, and jewellery in particular offers itself as a tool of emotion. By ascribing feeling and care outside the self into a secondary very real form, it announces to the material universe, "I am here in this moment in time, and this is who I have loved."

Custom Jewellery

Custom Jewellery

I live and breathe jewellery and romance. Where the two meet, I translate moments of love and life into beautiful adornment. While I've been goldsmithing for around a decade, my combined study of fine arts includes Oil Painting, Intaglio Printmaking, Contemporary Object Design, Sculpture, and Photography. This variation allows me to draw from 20+ years of expressive work to craft unique and beautiful art jewellery. Every piece is crafted by me using traditional techniques and precious materials from the natural earth, in my humble little studio. Commissioning a bespoke piece of handmade fine jewellery for someone you love is one of the oldest expressions of appreciation and devotion.

Gemstone Sourcing

Gemstone Sourcing

Sourcing the perfect unique genuine natural gemstones for your custom creations, in Australia and worldwide. I work with ethical suppliers and have years of industry knowledge and networks available to meet your needs. Vintage or Antiques. Certified Origins. Obscure or custom cuts. Argyle Diamonds. Australian Sapphires. Burmese Spinel. Mozambique Ruby. Zambian Emerald. Lapis Lazuli, Chrysoprase, Carnelian — everything beautiful inbetween. You dream it, I'll help you find it.

Repair Services

Repair Services

Elegant repairs to restore your cherished jewellery to wear again. Resizing, restoration or complete remodelling. I treat each piece with the care it deserves. If your jewellery needs unique antique restoration or extra specialist knowledge I cannot provide, I'll put you in touch with a suitable niche professional I trust who can help. Repairs are completed by hand, using traditional goldsmithing methods to ensure high quality and longevity.

Handmade Chains

Handmade Chains

Each link formed and soldered by hand no machine soldering, no casting. Handmade chains are one of the most labour intensive and rewarding makes. Every chain I make is entirely unique and built to last a lifetime.

Gemstone Intaglio

Gemstone Intaglio

An ancient art of engraving imagery directly into the surface of a gemstone. One of the earliest markers of authenticity, gemstone intaglio take many hours of intricate and precise carving and refinement before completion. Animals, botanicals, symbols of love... in traditional intaglio or carved in reverse so to read as floating inside a natural stone. I hand carve original intaglio work that bridges fine art and jewellery in the oldest tradition.

Chasing & Repoussé image

Chasing & Repoussé

A sculptural metalworking technique where sheet metal is worked from both sides using hammers and punches to create dimensional relief. Beautifully expressive and physically demanding, the results are entirely one of a kind and allow delicate yet bold motifs.

Storytelling through object creation.
